Get started with MemoryBot

Everything a server admin or member needs to invite MemoryBot, opt in a channel, and start asking it what your server already decided.

Getting started

MemoryBot is disabled everywhere by default. Nothing is read or stored until an admin explicitly turns it on for a channel.

  1. 1 Add MemoryBot to your server. Use the Add to Discord button. The bot DMs the server owner a short setup guide as soon as it joins.
  2. 2 Enable a channel. Run /enable #channel as an admin (requires Manage Channels). MemoryBot starts batching messages in that channel only.
  3. 3 Ask it something. Try /ask or /catch-me-up once a bit of discussion has happened. MemoryBot only answers from memories it has actually extracted.
  4. 4 Manage it from the dashboard. Sign in at Open Dashboard to see enabled channels, usage, and plan options per server.

How memory works

MemoryBot never stores your raw chat log. It batches messages from enabled channels for a few minutes, then asks a language model to distill that window into a handful of durable facts, decisions, and corrections. Only those short summaries, not the original messages, go into its memory store.

forum Batch Messages in enabled channels are grouped into short windows.
psychology Extract Gemini distills each batch into durable memories, discarding the raw text.
question_answer Answer /ask and proactive replies retrieve only the memories relevant to the question.

Command reference

/enable [channel] Turns on memory collection for a channel. Requires Manage Channels.
/disable [channel] Turns memory collection back off for a channel.
/ask <question> Asks a question against the server's stored memory for the current channel.
/catch-me-up <hours> Summarizes every distinct topic stored over the last 1-168 hours.
/schedule-summary Schedules a recurring summary in a channel, on plans that support it. Requires Manage Channels.
/remove-schedule Lists a server's scheduled summaries and lets you remove one. Requires Manage Channels.
/forget confirm:True Permanently deletes every memory for the server. Requires Administrator.
/ignore_me Opts you out of memory collection in the current server.
/unignore_me Opts back in and resumes memory collection in enabled channels.
/premium Shows a private link to the web dashboard to review or change the server's plan.
/help Shows a quick-start guide from inside Discord.

All commands are server-only; MemoryBot doesn't respond to commands in DMs.

Privacy & control

  • check Opt out any time with /ignore_me, and back in with /unignore_me.
  • check Admins can wipe everything for the server with /forget confirm:True.
  • check Memories expire automatically based on your plan's retention window: 14 days on Free, 90 days on Starter, 365 days on Pro.

FAQ

Does MemoryBot read every channel?

No. It only reads channels an admin has explicitly enabled with /enable, and it ignores DMs entirely.

Does it store my messages word-for-word?

No. Raw messages are held briefly in memory during the batch window, then discarded once distilled into a short summary.

Can I remove myself from what's remembered?

Yes, run /ignore_me in the server. Admins can also clear everything with /forget.

Why didn't /ask find anything?

MemoryBot only answers from memories it has extracted so far. If the channel was only recently enabled, or the topic hasn't been discussed yet, there's nothing to retrieve.
